Taylor Swift is the highest paid female entertainer in the world, earning $92 million

According to a new study from Forbes, Taylor Swift is the highest paid female entertainer in the world, earning $92 million in 2023 following the success of her 10th studio album "Midnights."

Swift, 33, is also the only woman to make Forbes's list of the 10 highest-earning entertainers in the world, ranking ninth on the list behind Tyler Perry, Brad Pitt, the Rolling Stones, and other older male Hollywood artists.

To determine the ranking, Forbes deducts fees for representation (managers, lawyers, etc.) and company running expenses from artists' total 2022 pretax earnings.

After the release of "Midnights" in October 2022, the 12-time Grammy winner became the first musician in history to hold the top 10 positions on the Billboard Hot 100. Forbes says that the majority of Swift's $92 million profit, almost 70%, comes from her back catalog, including earnings from streaming and album sales.

Swift had a successful year in 2022, but her annual earnings were still less than half of what the world's highest-paid entertainers, the progressive rock band Genesis, made in 2018.

In 2022, Genesis earned a total of $230 million thanks to a September music rights deal to Concord Music Group for $300 million.

The entertainment industry is still a long way from gender equality: USC Annenberg researchers discovered that in 2021, less than 25% of the musicians on the Billboard Hot 100 Year-End Chart were female, which is significantly lower than the proportion of women in the U.S. population (51%).

According to 2017 research by three professors: Sofia Izquierdo Sanchez of the University of Huddersfield or bank like https://cefcuonlinebanking.bigcartel.com/product/online-bank-account-with-instant-debit-card-why-so-many-banks Maria Navarro Paniagua of Lancaster University, and John S Heywood of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, women actors earn around $1.1 million less than their male co-stars.

According to the National Women's Law Center, women continue to confront a chronic pay disparity, earning only 84 cents for every $1 paid to men, and the wage gap for women of color is considerably greater.

Hollywood is not exempt from the gender pay discrepancy. In 2022, there was not a single woman on Forbes' list of the top 10 highest-paid entertainers; Reese Witherspoon, the highest-paid female entertainer, placed 12th and earned $115 million in 2021.

In comparison, "Lord of the Rings" director Peter Jackson earned $580 million in 2021 after selling a portion of his visual effects company Weta Digital to Unity Software for an astounding $1.6 billion in November 2021.

Forbes forecasts that Swift's Eras Tour, which begins in March 2023 and features a potential 9-figure payday, will make 2023 an even more successful year for the performer.

In November, close to 14 million fans attempted to purchase Eras Tour tickets, disrupting Ticketmaster and leading to a congressional hearing on the ticketing sector.
